The strength of the program, the clear level of championship play in the post-season (even though the team has yet to win a bowl game, the level of play is worthy of championships) demands it.
Football's so different than basketball when it comes to recruiting - you can have a guy commit and keep taking visits, and there's the notion of a soft commit, which really isn't there in basketball. When you commit, you usually keep to it, though in recent years, we have seen a growing trend of young guys who flip flop a time or two.
Take Flinn Nagel, who committed to Duke but who will be attending Northwestern. It happens a lot.
