We haven't paid that much attention to Joe Alleva's time at LSU since he left Duke, but the Tiger's A.D. is squarely in the spotlight now.

Louisiana State is about to dump Les Miles, which seems both harsh and about right.

By that we mean harsh in general but about right by SEC standards. You'll likely remember that Ole Miss dumped David Cutcliffe one year after a 10-3 record.

Alleva has made it clear that change is coming, and apparently his target is Florida State's Jimbo Fisher.

LSU is obviously a better football school than Duke, but LSU fans should be aware that Alleva's hires at Duke included Carl Franks, Ted Roof and, just before he left, Cutcliffe.

The Frank hiring was poorly handled and a disaster. Roof was an improvement but he was still over his head at Duke. And Cutcliffe was hired on Alleva's watch, but there was a committee involved. It wasn't really his hire in that sense.

Less remembered was baseball coach Bill Hillier, who was forced out after allegedly encouraging his players to use steroids.

And most of you will remember that Alleva took a lot of criticism over how he dealt with the Duke lacrosse hoax.

So it should be interesting to see how the process works for Alleva and LSU.
