Okafor Takes Out A Boston Fan

Not a smart move by a normally savvy kid.

Okafor got into a fight with some clown who yelled "the 76ers suck!"

Okafor responded by yelling "we got money, you broke [expletive]!" And then hit him.

Needless to say, this is not a good way to make an impression.

What we've seen of Okafor so far is a quiet, good-natured kid. He had great tragedy as a kid when his mother died, but other than that, his life, or at least his basketball life, has been charmed.

Other than being drafted by Philadelphia, anyway.

You'd think that having someone like Okafor would be a turning point in what management has called "the process."

But the last game Okafor won was in a Duke uniform.

It's bound to be frustrating, but Okafor needs to understand some things right now.

First, he's still building his brand. Getting into street fights is not helpful. It doesn't have to define him, but if something like that happens again, it will start to. Look no further than Johnny Manziel for an instructive example.

And second, money is not the measure of a man. There are literally millions of people in this country who make a fraction of what he does who will never be rich but who get up every day and bust their ass to scrape a living. At some point, perhaps soon, perhaps some time from now, Okafor will probably regret equating money with value as a human being.

The thing that we should all remember is that Okafor is just 19. Many of us were complete idiots at 19 and some of us took a lot longer to wise up.

He'll get past this, but it's really important that he learn from it. We're confident that he will.
