Dwayne Bacon's debut in Tallahassee was impressive.

UNC is still playing without the injured Marcus Paige, but Nate Britt is doing reasonably well as his stand-in.

UNC is still not lights out from three point range - it's been an issue for a couple of seasons - but Britt hit 3-8 and the team was 8-23. Why a Roy Williams team would take nearly 1/3 of its shots from outside when it had a big inside advantage is a different story. Maybe to just keep working on it?

Williams was frustrated by his team's lack of intensity though, saying that "I’m concerned about the way we played tonight but I’m not worried about our team."

Britt was a bit more straightforward: "That’s the thing we’ve always had problems with. That’s something we want to get better with this year. Our first game we did a good job of coming out with intensity. We just didn’t do it today. Being consistent with that is a key."

It's worth keeping an eye on.

After State got suckered by W&M's Princeton offense, the Pack did better against South Alabama, winning by 18, but Mark Gottfried was a little frustrated too, at one point smashing a clipboard over his knee.

Cat Barber had a solid game with 17 points, 12 boards and eight assists.

State went with a 2-3 zone and still lost track of some guys so defense is an early question mark.

Maverick Rowan got his first start and had 15.

Over the last few years, Bucknell has been a really solid program. Wake hasn't been, so this is the sort of road game that could have been dangerous.

It took a while but the Deacs prevailed behind big games from Bryant Crawford and Devin Thomas.

Crawford had 21 while Thomas finished with 18 points and 12 boards. Mitchell Wilbelkin added 17.

Wake was down 13 early and a couple of years ago would have given up.

Not much is expected from Clemson this year, but the Tigers have two pretty solid forwards in Donthe Grantham and Jaron Blossomgame. Grantham had 22 against South Alabama while Blossomgame finished with 11. They combined to shoot 11-16.

Florida State is now a seriously talented basketball team. It remains to be seen what Leonard Hamilton does with it, but against Nicholls State, his freshmen did well.

Dwayne Bacon had 23 points and eight boards. Malik Beasley had 21 and Terance Mann 15. And XRM?

Xavier Rathan-Mayes had 11 points and 11 assists. For a guy who is a great scorer, 11 assists is really impressive.

Monday night's games aren't that great, although we'll be interested to see what happens in the Virginia-George Washington game. Last year, Virginia had trouble with GW's guards before pulling away later in the game. It's better scheduling than a lot of people will risk, so kudos to Virginia.
