Over at The Sporting News, Mike DeCourcy declares Coach K the best coach ever, better even than John Wooden.
It's not a new debate, of course. The basic parameters are that college basketgball is vastly more competitive now and that the one-and-done era makes it much harder to be consistently good.
You could also toss in that the tournament has changed dramatically. When Wooden coached, he had only to win the West regional to get to the Final four, and that meant playing two games against weak foes. Duke has to play four games just to win the regional, and the field is seeded now, meaning that you can play teams from anywhere. It's vastly more difficult.
