We were truly sorry to see that Dick Groat couldn't make the Pitt game, where he was to be honored.

Groat, who played at Duke in the late 40s and early 50s, was an absolutely sensational athlete. He was the national Player Of The Year as a Duke guard and then had a long Major League baseball career as well.

He was the first guy to be inducted into both the college basketball and baseball Halls of Fame.

He's a long-time radio guy for the Pitt network.

Groat, 84, suffered a concussion and wasn't able to travel.

We hope he's up and about soon. He's a remarkable guy and someone Duke fans should respect and hold as dear as Christian Laettner, Art Heyman or Mike Gminski.

With luck, the ceremony can be rescheduled.
