The two conferences will play in the Gavitt Tipoff Games in the first week of the season
For those who may not know, Dave Gavitt was the visionary who revived Eastern basketball with the founding of the Big East.
For the Big Ten's Jim Delaney, it's another chance to get his conference outside of the conference's traditional base, where the population is declining, and into the New York market. For the Big East, it's a chance to get in the public eye early and to market the league, now slimmed down and focused on basketball.
