Shane Battier would be a natural leader - if he ever decides to go into politics.

This is cool, but for Duke fans, no big surprise perhaps: Shane Battier says he was approached to run for Carl Levin's senate seat in Michigan.

People have said for years, only half in jest, that Battier would be president someday. You don't have to be around him for long to see why.

That said, we'd be surprised if he ran this year. It's just kind of late and he's working for a bit longer before his retirement (that and the deadline has passed, although he could conceivably run as a write-in).

Just as a stray thought, most of the Dukie-as-politician talk focuses around Battier, another guy would be really good too: he's articulate, smart, has tremendous debating skills and broad respect and doesn't suffer fools gladly.

Let's start it now: Jay Bilas for Senate!
