This means that Mitchell is heading back home with the idea of playing immediately. There are a few basic choices in that case: Georgia State, where transfers come to stay, Georgia, and Georgia Tech.
As you probably know, Tech is in desperate need of a big man after Robert Carter unexpectedly left. Mitchell would be a reasonable replacement.
Mitchell is the fifth player to leave since the season ended. That's astounding.
By coincidence, Maryland picked up a couple of players on Thursday as well: Richaud Pack, a guard who just finished up at NC A&T and will be immediately eligible as a graduate student, and Michal Cekovsky, a 7-0 Slovakian center.
They had gotten a commitment from Cekovsky earlier, but he had not signed until this week.
