The move to give the Big Five, for lack of a better term, more autonomy, was endorsed by the NCAA's board of directors on Thursday.

The Big Five - the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC - would essentially set up shop for themselves, with control over many things the rest of the NCAA schools would not have.

You could make an analogy to net neutrality, the idea that everyone on the Internet has an equal chance to reach consumers.

The FCC is preparing new rules to replace that as well, giving broader autonomy to the bigger players. Soon enough you'll be able to pay more than you want to watch NCAA action online.

Whatever you may think, we live in a time of immense change, and the parties are all jostling to get to the front of the line. It's really rather fascinating to watch, somewhat like a more genteel version of A Game Of Thrones.
