Here Comes Central!

The Triangle's fourth team might make some noise this March too.

We'd like to take a moment and congratulate NC Central on a great year to date. If the Eagles win the MEAC tournament, Central gets the automatic bid. The Eagles may come in as a 16 seed, possibly a 15. But don't pay attention to that.

Pay attention to this instead: this team beat NC State and gave undefeated Wichita one of its toughest games of the year.

The Eagles finished 24-5 and 14-1 in the MEAC. Jeremy Ingram is averaging 20 ppg and is the kind of player who can lead a team to a surprise or two in the tournament.

But just as importantly is coach Levelle Moton, who's done a remarkable job since being promoted to the head job in 2009.

There's always the big picture thing, and lots of coaches have that. But there's also the details, and not everyone has that.

For years, Florida State took team pictures in what looked like a practice gym Even the lighting was hideous.

As an example of paying attention to the small things, check out Central's team picture. Moton is pushing his program to be first class wherever possible. It's too early to say for sure, but Central could be on the verge of a wonderful era.

And there's no reason why all Triangle ACC fans can't unite and pull for them too. Well, State might be a bit reluctant after that loss. But still.

We think it's cool to have two highly successful teams in Durham, and we'd love to see Central turn out to be this year's Cinderella. And that really could happen. You don't take Central seriously, you're likely to lose.
