Saturday's Results
  • Notre Dame 90 Chicago State 42
  • Virginia 45 Rutgers 26

Rutgers shot just 25% and came close to a 1942-43 low mark against Princeton (even then Princeton was slow. Go figure).

The scoring for Rutgers is pretty funny: high scorers had eight and six. Going down the list: 4, 8, 2, 4, 6, 2, 0,0,0,0.

The Scarlet Knights also shot 0-13 from three point range.

No one planned it this way, surely, but Rutgers goes next to the other ACC bruise brother, Clemson, for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Tigers, though, may be without Rod Hall, who has an injured ankle.

In Saturday's only other ACC game, Notre Dame hammered Chicago State, 90-42. Check out Jerian Grant's line:

8-12, 6-8 from three point range, 4-4 from the line, two boards, five assists, 26 points and just one turnover.

By any reasonable standard, that's a great night.

Pat Connaughton added 17.

The Irish shot 14-25 from three point range and 58.5% overall.

Sunday's action includes Morgan State at Virginia Tech. The Bears, still coached by the scoundrel Todd Bozeman, are currently 1-5.

And Georgia Tech gets a dangerous Rhody, where Dan Hurley has done a tremendous job so far. Rhode Island went from 8-21 in his first year to 14-18 last year. Currently the Rams are 4-1 with an impressive win over Nebraska.
