ESPN & Louisville's Amazing Run

As Maryland leaves the ACC broke and uncertain of competing in the Big Ten both athletically and financially,  Louisville prepares to enter with an opposite trajectory: instead of losing money on investments that have not yet (and may never fully) pay off, the Cardinals embraced weeknight football games on ESPN to build a following (and revenues) in a very different way.

This article in the New York Times questions priorities at Louisville, and that's probably fair across the major programs in the NCAA, but there's no doubting the university played its hand brilliantly, culminating in the ascension to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Things have changed rather dramatically. We knew it in a big picture sense but had no idea just how much. It's pretty amazing.
