Josh Hairston is the latest member of this year's Duke team to undergo off-season surgery: in his case, it's a ligament in his right thumb.
Last year, Hairston really worked hard on conditioning and the good news is that this year, since he can't do anything with his hand for awhile, he can put in some serious time working on speed and endurance.
He was an often-unappreciated part of last year's team, but not by his coach and teammates. He did his job as well as anyone in that group.
