Miami has apparently emerged as the leader for K-State transfer Angel Rodriguez, who left saying that he'd like to be closer to his family in Puerto Rico. It's hard to get much closer than Miami and still stay in college basketball. And even then it's not that close. We knew Cuba was 90 miles from Florida, but didn't realize Puerto Rico was 1,000. Well, you learn something every day.
This ties in to something we've said for a long time: you can build a powerhouse program if you recruit the Caribbean. Basketball is an obsession in Puerto Rico and a number of good players have come from the islands. For that matter, Grievis Vasquez is from Venezuela. And who better to lock up the turf than a Cuban-American coach like Jim Larranaga?
