The NCAA ranked the loudest arenas in the NCAA thusly:
- Allen Fieldhouse, Kansas
- Cameron Indoor Stadium, Duke
- Carrier Dome, Syracuse
- Gallagher-Iba Arena, Oklahoma State
- The Pit, New Mexico
And by the way, what happened to Rupp?
However, here's something the NCAA forgot to factor in, and that's arena size.
- Carrier Dome - 35,012
- Allen - 16,300
- The Pit - 15,411
- Gallagher-Iba - 13,611
- Cameron - 9,314
The size difference is notable.
- 35,012 - 9,314= 25,698
- 16,300 - 9,314= 6,986
- 15,411 - 9,314= 6,086
- 13,611 - 9,314= 4,297
Put another way, one Duke fan is worth 3.75 Syracuse fans, 1.75 Kansas fans, 1.65 New Mexico fans, and 1.46 Oklahoma State fans, and about a dozen Duke fans can pretty much out-cheer 10-15,000 UNC fans on most nights too.
You guys need to work harder.
Incidentally, the difference between Cameron and the Dean Dome has perhaps never been as stark as this aerial photo of the Dean Dome shows. Check out the interior of Cameron by contrast. You can actually see the floor and the ceiling in the same shot.
You could in Carmichael, too. That gym was vastly more intimidating than the Dean Dome.
