As we suggested last night, Notre Dame is not playing well and with a brutal stretch coming up, the Irish need focus.

Perhaps North Dakota State just provided it.

Playing in the third round of the Gotham Classic, the Bison were a very tough opponent and when it came down to winning time, it wasn't Notre Dame that came through.

The Irish were unable to contain big man Marshall Bjorklund, who lit the Irish up for 26 on 11-14 shooting. The Irish couldn't score inside very much and didn't shoot that well from outside either.

Notre Dame hit a total of 20 shots and nine of them were threes. Twenty-nine out of 56 shots overall were from outside.

With a team of upper-classmen returning, home losses to Indiana State and North Dakota State isn't what was  expected from the Irish, and with  Indiana, Ohio State and Duke coming up, there's not much time to figure things out.

For that matter, given what's transpired, we can't see a guaranteed win anytime soon. If Notre Dame can't figure it out soon, this team could be in real trouble.

Speaking of trouble, Sidney Lowe has found some.

The former N.C. State coach failed to pay state taxes for three years and was given a 45 day suspended sentence, three years probation, community service and owes the state $71,000.

And speaking of State, here's Barry Jacobs with an article on Jordan Vandenberg, who has really come on lately for the Pack.

On Thursday, Maryland and B.C. get the conference season going. Both teams are struggling and something has to give.

It does seem like Maryland is probably struggling less.
