Lorenzo Charles, who was laid to rest in Raleigh's beautiful Oakwood Cemetery after his death last year, received a nice grave marker recently. Although we couldn't find it on Oakwood's useful grave locator, the N&O says it's very near Jim Valvano's grave, which is very large and impossible to miss as it's very close to the road.
And if you are into that sort of thing, you can take a big loop past the main office onto Walnut Avenue and visit Elizabeth Edwards' burial site.
We had no real interest in that until we read that after her son died at 16, Edwards began to visit daily and read favorite childhood books and tended not just his grave site but other children's nearby as well. That's deeply touching.
Unfortunately, she does not yet have a suitable memorial, although the family says one has been commissioned.
