When you list the all-time good guys in the NBA, or the sports world in general for that matter, Jack Twyman has to be pretty high on the list.
Twyman, who went to Cincinnati before playing for the Royals (now the Kings), was a teammate of Maurice Stokes, a brilliant talent who was left paralyzed days after an on-court injury in 1958.
Twyman became his legal guardian and took care of his teammate for the rest of his life, which was unfortunately short: Stokes died at 36 of a heart attack.
Twyman outlived him by 42 years, dying Thursday of cancer.
He's been a guy we've been aware of for as long as we've followed basketball and we've always been impressed by his decency and compassion. Our best wishes to his family and loved ones.
