We didn't see this coming, but at a minimum it's bound to be quite flattering: according to Stu Durando of the St. Louis paper, Johnny Dawkins is on the short list for the Illinois job.
Their focus appears to be Shaka Smart, but Smart seems unsure about making the move. He's apparently gotten a substantial offer.
They're also looking at Anthony Grant and Lorenzo Romar.
In an odd sidenote, Robert Smith of Simeon Career Academy, has been contacted about the job despite not having any college experience.
He does, however, coach one Jabari Parker.
