Matt Jones took the court in the Holiday Invitational for DeSoto and led his team to a 57-50 win over Kinston. Jones scored 17 points but shot just 4-12 but was 8-8 from the line including some crucial late shots.
Fans from this state will know that Kinston has always been a tough program. We can barely begin to list the players from Kinston, but just quickly we can think of Jerry Stackhouse, Charles Shackleford, Cornbread Maxwell, Tony Dawson, and more recently, Jerry Bullock. But it's not just basketball. Dwight Clark and Tyrone Willingham are both natives. Beating Kinston is a significant win.
