Next Up - Florida Gulf Coast

Next up for Duke is Florida Gulf Coast, and while you might be forgiven for thinking they're just a tuneup, they did, remember, beat Miami, and by 12.

Moreover, and we had forgotten this completely, but former Georgia Tech big man Nate Hicks is there and can presumably tell them more about Duke than the coaches can, since he's been in the trenches.

It's a young program - they've only just moved up to D-1 and the coach is in his second year. So beating Miami is huge.

They went to their conference finals last spring before losing to Belmont, a team you may remember. So don't take them lightly.

Testimonials!
I was just glad to find a magazine about Duke basketball. I thoroughly enjoyed the magazine. It was well written and very informative. A must read for any diehard Duke fan.Camille H
"I get excited enough about basketball season as it is, but this Guide has been on my screen for weeks now and I'm more excited than ever. Not just about Duke, but the whole league. There are some truly unique and remarkable stats in this book, enough to make you just itch for the games to begin and see how the players do this year. I think my favorite article is the one on athletes and social media, though. I've read it three times already! Great photos, great writing, and lots of both. This is essential. " PlanBee
"If you haven't purchased the Fan's Guide yet, what are you waiting for? It contains marvelous old-school content in a new-school format." Jerry K.
"Thanks a lot! The guide looks fantastic! I am really excited to dig in." Rick W
"Wow, huge piece of work! Congratulations. You guys never fail to provide the best a fan could ask for." Bill C.

Well scratch that thought about Hicks knowing more: Coach Andy Enfield is an FSU guy and he's seen Duke lots.

What most of us probably don't realize is that FGCU got a lot of easy baskets against Miami and also defended very well, holding their frontcourt to 29%. But Jim Larranaga says they'll have a tougher time with Duke:

“The difference is 3-point shooting,” Larranaga told the Fort Meyer News-Press. “Duke’s guys shoot the ball extremely well. They share it very well, they get very good shots. We didn’t get very good shots.”

As always, it seems, there's a Duke-Carolina angle. In this case it comes from Raleigh native Eric McKnight, a Carolina fan growing up, who says I hate Duke, pretty much. It’ll be real good if we beat them.”

Another connection: guard Brett Comer was a three-year high school teammate of Austin Rivers.
