N.C. State threatened to end a long run of futility on the Blue Devils' home court when it led Duke by 20 near the midpoint of a game at Cameron Indoor Stadium last February. The visitors had not won at Durham since January 1995, when head coach Mike Krzyzewski was sidelined by exhaustion and back surgery.
Duke rallied from its huge deficit to beat the Pack at Cameron, extending a winning streak that's tied for the Devils' second-longest against any ACC foe.
Once a home and home series, starting in the mid-2000s the schools' meetings became a casualty of the constant juggling of schedules and designated rivals occasioned by ACC expansion efforts.
This season N.C. State is one of seven teams with which Krzyzewski's club will trade home and home meetings. Then, under the league's new scheduling setup -- which goes into effect next season when Pittsburgh and Syracuse increase the membership to 14 -- Duke and N.C. State will became paired partners, facing off twice annually.
Duke's longest win streak against an ACC foe is 15 in a row at Cameron against Virginia, which doesn't visit this season.
Clemson's streak of futility at Duke matches N.C. State at 14 straight. The Tigers come to Cameron on Jan. 8, almost 18 years to the day since they last won on the Devils' floor.
That night in 1995 was Rick Barnes' first ACC contest as Clemson head coach, and Krzyzewski's last in what proved a disastrous season for Duke.
