ACC conference action gets underway Saturday and there are some interesting games on the slate. Boston College at UNC is not likely to be one.

This may be one of the biggest mismatches in conference history.  BC did get a small bit of good news as James Michael McAdoo is listed as doubtful for this game.  That's about it as far as the good news goes.

They have no hope of matching up with anyone in UNC's frontcourt or backcourt, individually or collectively. It's just not going to happen. The only chance they have, as far as we can see, is UNC's historic nemesis: a freak three point performance.  Think Randolph Childress or Tayshawn Prince.  Realistically, though, they might as well just get ready to take their lumps.

Virginia Tech at Wake is a good bit more interesting. We'd take Tech obviously, but Wake has improved significantly.  Neither team is particularly big.  Wake is not as good, but they're close enough to make it a compelling game and possibly an upset if they play very well. As we've said several times, they're not they're yet, but they are light years ahead of last year's nightmare.

FSU at Clemson is a game for connoisseurs of defense. Both teams are hard-nosed and tough.  Both have also struggled offensively to date. Florida State should be favored, rationally, but they've had fits with turnovers.  Is Devin Booker ready to step up?  The Tigers could sure use him. We should learn a lot about both before the end of the day.

Miami and Virginia should be fun as well.  The 'Hoos have cracked the Top 25 but Miami has gotten Reggie Johnson and DeQuan Jones back, and Kenny Kadji lately is playing his ass off.   Plus Virginia is suddenly thin after two recent transfers.

On the other hand, most of us aren't thinking about Virginia's epic meltdown last season in the ACC Tournament, when they had Miami and let them go. We're quite sure that Virginia is.

On Friday, Georgia Tech caught an intriguing break when Kentucky refugee Stacey Poole said he would finish his college career in Atlanta. No doubt they'd prefer him today, but he'll help next January or so when he's eligible.
