We're very sorry indeed to report that Bill Brill, a guy who loved Duke as much as anyone, has died at the age of 79. He was a superb writer and a long-time friend and supporter of DBR. We're sure everyone joins us in sending condolences to his wife, Jane Shaw Brill. The Brills were close to a golden anniversary, having been married 49 years.
If sportswriters can get their numbers retired, if they had one, his would be. Perhaps press row could be named for him instead.
We'll have more on this later. Although multiple reports had his service planned for Cameron, it certainly won't be this weekend, as that's the time for Duke's basketball banquet.
