ACC Roundup!

If Larry Drew was hoping that his departure would hurt the Tar Heels, it didn't happen against Florida State, as Kendall Marshall put on a brilliant performance, racking up a UNC conference game record 16 assists Or a freshman record - we've seen it both ways. When you consider the guards UNC has had over the years -- Phil Ford, Kenny Smith, Derrick Phelps, Ed Cota -- it's extremely impressive.

No ACC Games Until Tuesday!
School Conf. Pct. Overall Pct.
Duke 8-1 .889 21-2 .913
North Carolina 7-1 .875 17-5 .773
Florida State 6-3 .667 16-7 .696
Clemson 5-4 .556 16-7 .696
Virginia Tech 5-4 .556 15-7 .682
Boston College 5-4 .556 15-8 .652
Maryland 5-4 .556 15-8 .652

Georgia Tech 3-6 .333 10-12 .455
NC State 2-7 .222 12-11 .522
Wake Forest 1-7 .125 8-15 .348

A possible fly in the ointment: UNC's rotation, usually so expansive under Roy Williams, is basically down to seven -- and this in a 20 point win.

Still, good passing is infectious and UNC had 23 assists on 34 baskets.

As we've said before, Marshall has the soul of a point guard.  We'll see how the rest of the season works out, but for now, while Larry Drew made an ass of himself, Marshall just made a fool out of him as well.

With Duke coming up on Wednesday, the Tar Heels are remembering last season's disaster in Cameron and swear it won't happen again.

The Duke game this weekend was a  definite low point for Sidney Lowe and his program. Here's another: the student newspaper is now calling for a coaching change.
