Here's Barry Jacobs with his thoughts on the Duke-UNC game and just how far behind State has fallen.

Still, we can go along with what Gary Parrish says to a limited extent. State is a very tough job because they do compete directly with Duke and UNC, but it's all about hiring the right guy.
State fans should remember that when Mike Krzyzewski was hired, or certainly not long after, Duke was seen as the third wheel in the Triangle. Remember, UNC and State won national titles in 1982 and 1983, while Duke appeared to be tanking.
State was ecstatically happy with Jim Valvano, who remember came to State from Iona. He did well there, but it wasn't like it was written in stone that he was going to achieve greatness.
That was the same for Bobby Cremins at Georgia Tech.
The odds of hiring a John Calipari or a Jamie Dixon are pretty slim and State fans probably shouldn't waste their time or energy fantasizing about a hire like that.
Instead, when she is ready to look, Debbie Yow should scour the ranks of mid-majors and top-flight assistants. That's where Duke found Coach K, where Kansas found Roy Williams and where Georgia Tech found Cremins.
There's plenty of talent there - Brian Gregory, Greg Marshall, Shaka Smart and many others. A number of them will have the confidence to take on whatever the ACC has to offer -- and that's the only way to compete.
They'll certainly never get there by taking Parrish's advice and settling for mediocrity. What they need is a firebrand, a fighter, a guy who might lose but who will go toe to toe with Coach K, Roy Williams, or whoever else gets in the way.
