Duke and UNC have been dominant in the ACC for a long time, so it'd be great and healthy if some other schools stepped up. With the recent upgrades in coaching, that seems more likely.  Mark Gottfried could be one of those, or perhaps Brad Brownell.  Both guys are off to promising early starts in their respective ACC careers.

Virginia Tech has another injury to deal with although it may not be severe: Erick Green is in a walking boot after an Achilles injury.  He may still play Friday.

UNC of course opens on the USS Carl Vinson, where they'll take on Michigan State.  They're clearly looking forward to it.

One of the nice stories this year may be the return of Mike Scott,  who was on the verge of a breakout season when he got hurt last year.
