The best news to come out of Monday night was State's victory over Texas.  Now let's be clear: this is not the best team Rick Barnes has had lately and he has a lot of freshmen (six). Still, Texas is a powerful program and a well-coached team.  Yes, they lost an 18 point lead, but State also had something to do with that.

When was the last time the Pack pulled off a game like this? You know, it happens in the ACC, but aginst a national power? It's been a while.

State got a solid game out of Scott Wood, even though he wasn't sure earlier in the day if his ankle would hold up. He scored 16.  CJ Leslie hit 17, DeShawn Painter added nine and Richard Howell added eight.

Virginia finished the Paradise Jam 2-1 and in fourth place.  After a superb defensive performance against Drexel, UVa held Drake to 52 points on 39% shooting.  Joe Harris hit for 18 and Mike Scott finished with 14 points and nine boards.

B.C,. is almost bound to improve through the season, but with 10 freshmen, they're going to have some growing pains. Well, Monday night qualifies: UMass beat them senseless.  They're not a great team, but they clocked the Eagles, nearly lapped them in fact, winning 82-46, at B.C. no less. Silvio O. Conte was less than half full for the massacre.

Anyone remember this line? "If they can take York..." well, if UMass can take B.C. by 36, what would Duke or UNC do? At this point, B.C. is almost helpless against serious competition.

The most interesting game Tuesday night is Virginia Tech vs. Syracuse.  The rest are actually pretty lame.  But can "Doe-Doe," aka Dorian Finney-Smith,  keep up his impressive early performance against the Orange? Will they be distracted by the Bernie Fine situation? Stay tuned!
