In ACC Sunday basketball, UNC dispatched Mississippi Valley State, 101-75, FSU dominated South Alabama 80-39, Wake beat NCCU 93-79, LSU took Georgia Tech 59-50 and Iona thumped Maryland 89-63.

It's early, but Mark Turgeon sounds very frustrated. Check out these comments from the Post:

"This is the biggest challenge I’ve ever had in coaching; it’s not even close...I can’t make it any easier on these guys. The lack of commitment to running the plays the right way is mind-boggling. I’ve never seen anything like it...We were confused. We were selfish, I don’t know how many times we can ask these guys to run back [on defense], and they still don’t do it the way they need to do it. It was a bad day."

At this rate he might not make it to March.

UNC didn't need much to beat MSVS, which is good because they were a long way from their potential. Tired legs? Harrison Barnes thinks so:

"I think [against] Michigan State, the minutes [for starters] were like, 35, 35, 35,” Barnes told the N&O. "You know, going through a stretch like this, you can’t play those kinds of minutes and expect to be at your tip-top shape at the end."

Well, maybe, but you'll get a lot of minutes at the end of the season, sometimes back to back to back, and it's a built-in excuse for failure, too.

No shock to see FSU play lock-down D; that's what they do.  We'll be intrigued when they don't - or when the offense is as good.

Georgia Tech had 22 turnovers against LSU and shot just 40%: not a good combination.

Somewhat to our surprise, considering Tech's lack of depth, rookie Julian Royal isn't playing much at all. He got just four minutes in this game.

We're not completely sold on Wake Forest at this point, but the Deacs are 3-0 and that's pretty good, especially after last year's disaster. Central isn't a powerful opponent, and they were probably considerably distracted by the arrest of a starting guard who was charged with drug dealing earlier in the day.

On Monday, Virginia takes on Drake, B.C. gets local rival UMass, and State plays Texas in another potential growth game.
