Words we never thought we'd write: Harvard thus beats an ACC team three years running.
Our thought was that it was Al Skinner. Things sort of fell apart there at the end. But no, it was more Tommy Amaker than Skinner, or new coach Steve Donahue for that matter.
Amaker's bunch is killing it from the foul line: tied for first nationally, they were 23-24 for the game.
Tracy Smith's knee is still aching, but he's managing things and playing again. State struggled a bit - Duke found out Elon is underrated - but came out fine in the end.
CJ Leslie scored 19 and grabbed 9 boards; Smith had 15 and six. Ryan Harrow chipped in with 18.
Wake had a tight game with High Point until the last 10 minutes when the Deacs pulled away.
Just 7-8, they are finding cause for optimism.
"I think we're growing as a team every day,'' Nikita Mescheriakov told the Winston-Salem Journal. "We're looking better in practice and looking better in games.
"I think (last night) we really showed we can play together as a team. We had a really good offensive flow. I think we're just getting better and we're ready for this challenge.''
Well let's hope so. We'll learn more this weekend since everyone is in conference action. Wake plays State which should be pretty interesting.
