Smith had 16 points in his return; C.J. Leslie grabbed eight boards but had another poor shooting performance, going just 1-6. Scott Wood woofed (0-3).
However, Richard Harrow grabbed 13 boards 26 minutes, Lorenzo Brown scored 14, and Ryan Harrow was 6-7 for 12.
For State now, it's all about sorting out roles, but they have their senior anchor back, which is great for them and the conference in general.
B.C. continues to shoot a lot of threes, no great surprise considering their coach. The Eagles put up 32 against South Carolina, hitting 13.
More surprisingly, B.C. killed the Gamecocks on the boards, 41-27.
Big day of ACC action Sunday, although only Duke and Miami play in-conference. Should be wins: Mt. St. Mary's in Blacksburg, St. Francis at UNC, Citadel at Clemson. Almost certain loss: Gonzaga at Wake Forest. They haven't forgotten last season: Wake was down significantly when Elias Harris was ejected. Wake got a very rare seven point trip (four foul shots followed by a three pointer) and that changed the complexion of the game. It was all over after that. Don't expect Gonzaga to have forgotten.
Georgia Tech should normally be favored to beat Charlotte, but this team has not impressed. They both played Mercer on the 30th and 31st, with Charlotte winning by one and Tech by nine.
