No doubt winning the gold medal in the last Olympics was a big deal: that was the point after all. However, perhaps the best result of Coach K's stewardship of the Olympic program is that now everyone is interested in playing for the USA.
While a lot of the last Olympic team is sitting out this summer, the current team will feature Stephen Curry and Rajon Rondo. Also candidates:
Chauncey Billups, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, Tyreke Evans, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Danny Granger, Jeff Green, Andre Iguodala, David Lee, Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, Kevin Love, O.J. Mayo, Lamar Odom, Derrick Rose, Amarâe Stoudemie, Gerald Wallace, and Russell Westbrook.
There's no guarantee of a medal, but that's potentially a hell of a backcourt, and if you start with Durant up front, that won't be bad either.
