John Calipari is not someone who is necessarily well-liked by a lot of people. Consider a couple of things from this week: there were rumors that Sidney Lowe was about to be fired. State A.D. Lee Fowler rebuked them, adding that "It started in the coaching circles. Iâve had to tell [signee] Ryan Harrow's mother three times this year that there is nothing to worry about."
Coincidentally or not, both State and Kentucky are heavily recruiting Raleigh's C.J. Leslie and Calipari was in town about the time the rumor got legs.
Perhaps young Leslie should pay attention to this before making his decision: remember how five Kentucky players announced their decision to go early - John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Eric Bledsoe, Daniel Orton and Patrick Patterson?
Apparently Kentucky forgot to check with Patterson before issuing the press release, and his mother is not particularly amused:
âI have a problem with it going out and not being official. It is his decision. He has not declared for the draft and once he does he canât back out because he declared for the draft last year. But I am very upset with all this because the statement Patrick gave to DeWayne, he didnât know it was being released tonight." Tywanna Patterson said she tried to call Calipari, but the normally chatty UK coach did not return her call. Her opinion? âMe personally, I think it is Calâs way to get recruits to commit and wants to make sure they know John (Wall), DeMarcus (Cousins), Daniel (Orton) and Eric (Bledsoe) are gone along with Patrick. Pat didnât know they were sending that statement out tonight.â Perhaps Sidney Lowe should send this out to the Leslie family. Also, this twitter from Adrian Wojnaroski:
Interesting. Kentucky fans may now be starting to see that hiring Calipari brings certain downsides.
