Nolan Richardson has been out of the college game since he dared his AD at Arkansas to fire him. He got fired, sued, and hasn't worked for a university since then.
The question is why.
Richardson thinks it's a racial issue, and certainly it could be. There's no question in our mind that it got very personal with AD Frank Broyles. But it's probably more complex than that.
Among the strikes against him are age now (he's 68, and was 61 when he got fired) and academic performance at Arkansas (the graduation rate was dismal). If you're looking to hire someone, a 68-year-old with a terrible record of graduating players is probably not a good bet.
That said, it is surprising that he didn't get a a call from UTEP after Doc Sadler left.
