The amazing thing about that game is that UNC has to win to avoid last-place.  We're pretty sure that no one saw that coming.

To make things more interesting, UNC will play without Tyler Zeller, Travis Wear, and Ed Davis.  Their frontcourt depth is pretty much a thing of the past for the rest of this season and how UNC responds will be interesting. Given everything that's happened, it might not be a bad time to try something radical, like starting four guards and Deon Thompson. Who knows?  Nothing else has worked.

By the way, although it probably wasn't as satisfying as it might have been under different circumstances, UNC celebrated their hundredth anniversary Friday night.  Dean Smith made a rare public appearance and decades of alumni came back.  Not our cup of tea, but surely a wonderful night for UNC fans, who were so charitable they even applauded Matt Doherty.

The game itself may not be that great, but we'll be a little surprised if State wins.  And by the way, State AD Lee Fowler has said that he supports Sidney Lowe and that he'll be back next season.  So you State fans can quit scheming for a while.

The more interesting game is probably in Blacksburg, where an increasingly confident Virginia Tech squad takes on the surprising Cavaliers.  They've shown they can play lights out defense, and Tech is no slouch at that either.  Plus add in the traditional hatred between these two and it could be a spectacular game.

In Clemson, look for the Tigers to tame the Hurricanes. They played well against Georgia Tech, but outsmarting Georgia Tech is unfortunately not that hard. Clemson is a bit smarter.

Were not counting on them outsmarting Wake Forest, least of all in Winston-Salem, and not after their last three performances.

While we cover Duke separately, of course, it's worth mentioning that the winner of that game seizes a big advantage in the conference race.
