You can imagine the liability suit that would have come about if the kid had (God forbid) died, and how it would have been played out in the media, not least of all on the heels of the lacrosse scandal, Karen Owen's Power Point (foolish idea on her part, but we empathize because being in the middle of a media riot can't be fun and whatever she was thinking we're sure she never wanted that to happen), and boorish frat behavior.
For better or worse, there is no other choice for the University.
