Those traits helped Virginia Tech's Malcolm Delaney earn All-ACC first team honors last year, and similar preseason notice in 2010-11. But what really sets apart the 6-3 senior from Baltimore - a trait that has gone remarkably unnoticed -- is his propensity for getting to the foul line. Thanks to a relentless thirst for attacking the basket, coupled with toughness, determination, good moves, and at least a passing acquaintance with the thespian's art, Delaney attempted 273 free throws in 2010. He made 230.

Delaney's attempts not only led the league but were the second-most ever by a guard during an ACC season. Only Virginia's Buzz Wilkinson in 1954 and 1955 got to the line more often from the guard position than Delaney, whose 2010 total stands 21st in conference history.

Through the first three games this season, Delaney again tops ACC players in scoring (21.7). He's averaging better than eight trips to the foul line per game, with a .962 conversion rate that leads the league.
