Jerry Karpowicz offered to cover Marquette for us and has an excellent preview of the Golden Eagles. We'd just like to add a few thoughts.
This is the point when things start to get real. We'll be really interested to see a number of things:
- Will Duke get consistent play from all three big men on both ends?
- How will Kyrie Irving do against a high-level college backcourt?
- How much will Duke get from Seth Curry and Andre Dawkins -- on both ends?
Beating up on Princeton, Miami and Colgate is fun but not that big of a deal. Marquette is a much different situation. Traditionally, Duke has prepared well for games like this and done well, but this is a very young team, Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Miles Plumlee aside. The rest are freshmen and sophomores, talented, true, but youth is youth and you never know where it will go.
Not that it matters that much. Good things or bad could come out of Kansas City, and either way, it's one stop on a long season. We'll see how it goes.
