Duke scored on their opening drive at Kansas, but after that the Jayhawks took over and outscored Duke 37-3 before Duke scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Duke returns home next weekend to play NCCU with a chance to move back to .500 before starting conference play.
Given the relative strength of conference play, Duke has a shot at beating struggling Virginia and Maryland but will have a tougher time first with Virginia Tech and State. They have a chance to be at .500 going into November. The question now is how much Cutcliffe can improve a young team and how quickly.
