LeBron Asserts Himself

In news that could conceivably affect the development of the Olympic team (although probably it won't), and certainly will give Danny Ferry some sleepless nights, LeBron James says he will probably become an unrestricted free agent next year.

For Ferry, now of course Cleveland's G.M., it could complicate life considerably. James is a bit unusual in that he's somewhat more loyal to a place than a lot of players are, but in his position, he'll be getting immense offers from everyone, not least of all the Knicks.

And for Coach K, if the contractual haggling goes on, James's agent would be remiss if he didn't warn him of the dangers of summer ball without a contract.
