The ACC is meeting this weekend to discuss to possible scheduling changes: either a) go to an 18-game conferences season, or b) go to divisions. So here's the problem with divisions: you'd have to put Duke and UNC in opposite sides.
Rather than all of that, why not go to three groupings, so that the four southern schools have home-and-home, the NC schools have home-and-home and the four northernmost schools have home-and-home? Then rotate around the matchups to fill in the blank spots.
Or be totally creative and have a late December/early January tournament where the teams that only play once are paired in the opening round and see what happens. Odds are, given this conference and it's traditions and intensity, it would turn into a huge event.
