Andrew Jones is down to his last two picks for his Top 31 ACC teams of all time, and
#2 is UNC '57, meaning that State '74 will be #1.
We would seriously consider putting UNC' 57 #1 for a couple of simple reasons: first, they were undefeated national champs, which is hard to do, and second, they played six overtimes in the Final Four to do it, including three against Kansas and Wilt Chamberlain, who was way, way beyond their level.
On the negative side, we'd have to say that, based on what we've read and heard, we believe Frank McGuire cheated pretty freely, both at UNC and South Carolina.
Even so, there's no denying it was a phenomenal team.
