Another "Smart" Hire By VCU?

Former Clemson assistant Shaka Smith, who is at Florida, will take the VCU job recently vacated by Anthony Grant, who in turn replaced Jeff Capel.  If he's as good a hire as his predecessors were, VCU will be in great shape.  And let's also not forget this:  in a field where A.D.'s are reluctant to gamble on unproven assistants, VCU has three times in a rown now gambled on not just unproven assistant coaches but African-American assistant coaches.  There are so many guys who wait decades for their shot.  The Rams deserve a lot of credit for taking chances and a lot of credibility for hiring just the right guys. And for what it's worth, with their keen eye for coaching talent, the job is becoming an increasingly prestigious position.
