You didn't have to read much about Duke to understand that John Hope Franklin was one of the most extraordinary faculty members the school had. We don't know enough about him to really write eloquently, but we can tell you that we admired him and when we came across mention of him in an article or essay, we always paid attention. He was a brilliant man, an important man, and just as importantly, a profoundly moral man.
