Basketball, like all sports, brings out the competitive nature in people, and often that's not very flattering. But from time to time, it can also bring out a certain nobility. Think about the German who told Jesse Owens to start a step back on the long jump, and lost because of his advice.
There was a pretty good example of this recently in a high school game in Milwaukee. This is really a moving story and speaks well of every person involved. In a nutshell, a kid's mom died on game day. He came late and said he wanted to play. The officials said they'd have to assess a technical since he came late, and the other team intentionally missed them. It's a great story.
