Duke opens football season with James Madison on Saturday, and is expecting a big crowd. Coach Cutcliffe asks everyone to dress in blue.
We'd like to add a couple of points. Cutcliffe has done a phenomenal job of generating excitement around Duke football. Think about that for a minute. It's not an easy thing to do, but he's done it in a big way. Like most Duke fans, we're pleased, grateful, and impressed.
But what happens if they lose Saturday?
Here's what we'd like to see happen. Bringing football back is a process, not magic. It's going to take a lot of hard work - and the coaches and the players have shown a willingness to do that - but it may not happen at warp speed. One game, win or lose, will not be decisive.
So either way, we'd like to suggest that all Duke fans wear blue on Monday. Given the commitment that Coach Cutcliffe has won from the team and his staff, we would urge everyone to help them keep building. The goals should be passion and excellence. For fans, that means sticking with our guys as they grow into a solid team.
