Yao Ming has always come across as a nice fellow, someone who is tall and talented but who doesn't define himself entirely as a basketball player. As it turns out, he's been sort of channeled into basketball from a young age. His personal history, really, is a bit tragic, and his mother's life is worth a novel even if she's not a particularly sympathetic character. Nightmare is more like it.
