For all the recent talk about how European basketball might be in a position to challenge the NBA, there is a major factor which no one seems to have touched on, and that's the player's union. Mike DeCourcy hit on a parallel theme when he talked about how Brandon Jennings new Italian team is pretty irregular about paychecks. For all the talk about euros and so on, NBA players have a very strong union and some real guarantees. We don't know what rights players have in Europe, but we're pretty sure they're not as strong.
