A Radio Show Worth Supporting Even If You Don't Live In Tampa

While we know most of you don't live in Tampa, for those of you who do, WMNF is having a fundraiser. We wouldn't normally do a plug for them, and no one has asked us to, but they have one show there that's  worth supporting even if you aren't in Florida:  Route 66, with Mike Vinyl.

We met Mike in Tucson, when he had a version of his show on a station there.  He has a vast collection of Jump R&B from the 40s and 50s - the station bills it as the world's largest - and an encylopedic knowledge of the music and the artists.  We owe him a great debt for introducing us to Louis Jordan, Bullmoose Jackson, and Julia Lee, among a great many others, and for turning us on to what is still, in most respects, the coolest, most exhilarating music the U.S. has produced.

If you are looking for a good tax write off, you can't do much better.  And if you live in Tampa, you can catch his show on Monday nights from 9:00-10:30 pm.

We don't know if he has the greatest collection or not, but you'd be hard pressed to find anyone with a greater passion for this era of brilliant music.  Best of all: you can listen to the archives online.

If you like it, please consider supporting the show!
